To whom it may concern:

Begin typing here...Mr. Govenor, I am sorry for the events that you are having to go through right now.

I sent you a letter about a month ago. asking for a pardon of my faults. I am both checking up on that as well as, expressing my sorrow for things that you are having to go through now with what I just watched on CNN. I cannot say that I am pleased to know that you have done that, However I can say that I have done my share of things as well. You must be encouraged though that the Lord will forgive you as will a lot of folks ehre in this time an life on earth, At least you had the courage to come out about this! That alone says something.

Please I beg you even if you can just quickly respond to me sometime in the near future here I would appreciate hearing from you! I still have faith in you an I still believe in most of your decisions as Governor. just Stand Strong!!!

Joseph Antol , Charleston South Carolina,

God Bless
DireckAssaultt

This seems to be a plea from someone who is in some sort of trouble with the law for an official pardon. While I sympathize, I'm not certain that this is exactly the best place for such a letter. I thought the purpose of this site was to communicate with elected officials over policy decisions. Shouldn't your attorney be handling this for you?

well, this is a short letter, with spelling errors. It seems like it was quickly written on an emotional low for something a guy did. I really do not sympathize.

Good luck, Joseph. I always feel it is a shame that public officials need to be dragged through the mud because of an indiscretion. As Joseph points out with his letter, NO ONE is above making a mistake. I am a liberal and would have never voted for the governor had he run for a national office on the GOP ticket, but I feel sorry just the same that his political aspirations have been dashed.

Yes, but he unrepentant. He should do the honorable thing and just leave for the sack of his family, state and party.

I have less problem with his affair than the fact that he just disappeared and left the state of South Carolina leaderless and more than a little confused.

I never wouldve thought that the governor of South Carolina was anything more then a pencil pusher. Quite the shocker about his secrets.

well this wasn't attended to be public letter:P /sigh however with the latest stuff I am can safely say he should stay in office until he has paid us back the money he used then step down. he can still get out of the office with some dignity if he were to do that. It makes me sick that we hold these people to any higher expectations than any one else they are people too. We need to be more on top of things than we are the people need to be more involved in the decisions too I do not see that in todays government so much. It saddens me that we all seem to just lay down an talk about how we want things then just let government tell us how it will be.

Yeah, this seems like the guy who wrote this should be speaking with an attorney. It is not a law-maker's. I am not clear if this is an activity that can be pardoned or not.

Part of me feels sorry for Gov Sanford; anyone can stumble. But he's now admitted he's fallen SEVERAL times. Worse, he has always attacked other politicians for having affairs, even calling for Clinton's impeachment because he violated his "oath to his wife." That's the kind of hypocrisy Jesus always spoke against. I like men of faith in office, but not Pharisees and Sadducees!

This is a great letter. Good for you for looking past someone's faults and encouraging them to be a better person for it!

It's hard not to feel some sympathy for this guy... However.... he did very aggressively go after a number of other politicians that had affairs... so it makes him a complete hypocrite. His judgement was not only poor, it was atrocious and I would expect an elected official to be way more responsible...

This governor is in no position to pardon anyone. He skipped out on his office for an international rendez-vous on the people's dime. He's got no credibility left. This is no one from whom to be begging pardon.

What governor are you talking about. Are you from Bristol England and you need to be forgiven by the common MAN or is there a Gov'nor that has direct decends from your GOD?

I agree... Let's forgive Governor Schwarzenegger for the events leading up to California's financial crisis. Oh... you're talking about Governor Sanford. My mistake.

I'm not sure why this guy is sorry for a man having to acknowledge that he's had an affair. i feel for the governor's wife.
libanbekele,  on 07/02/2009 @ 03:42 PM  wrote:
Yeah, it is important to look past a person's fault, but lets be serious. Sanford is a man of office and with that comes a higher responsibility. He is suppose to be role model for others and to do something like that is just stupid. AND mind you, he is one of the main figures who criticized Clinton for his affair...

You All need to realize I wrote the original letter to the governor before all this happened!!! I have seen what I could do through a Lawyer and for the drug offenses I have mostly Pot It has been to long for me to seek a Lawyer to get my record Clean. I know that a Governor has the power to pardon a man/woman for a lot of different things. I had no intention for this letter to be public this was just poor site navigation on my part an not knowing how to properly send this info to Sanford himself:P I hope you all read this comment before you respond further!:P

It was a serious mistake for the Governor. Really, he knew his trip to Argentina would ruin his career. His wife pleaded to him to not go. I he was really sorry, he would've listened to his wife.

This letter leaves me somewhat confused about its true purpose... it seems like it is a very bad attempt to get a solution to his problem rather than support the governor.

I don't understand why somebody would be writing this letter on this website. It does not seem relevant. If this person really needs help they should be consulting a lawyer

It's only a national issue because the guy vanished from his own office and staff for days on end. That's not illegal but it's terribly irresponsible. I'm not an SC voter, but if I were: the vanishing act would trouble me more than the other woman.

He didn't come out about this... He got caught. It takes no courage to admit wrong when you have already been exposed. To leave your family on Father's Day is the worst.

The govenor should be forgiven for his wrongs, but leaving his office for days without letting one know where he is should still be recognized as someone who is not reliable in following and doing his duties as a governor. You just can't leave your state held position for an affair and not let anyone know what is going on. I forgive him for his sins becasue no one is perfect, but he must be held accountable for his actions like anyone else who would leave their job for several days without letting his or her boss know what is going on. I would have been fired for this on my job. Even if I call in sick, I get repreminded, so why shouldn't he.

The writer has a good point. If Sanford expects the people to forgive him, he can at least review every petition for pardon and give them careful consideration.

During the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression a governor saw fit to visit a foreign country multiple times on the taxpayer's dime. Oh and it just so happened that his "soulmate" lived there. Just more lying, cheating, stealing of our politicians. Trust me, we expect nothing better of the self serving in positions of power!
