To whom it may concern:

I have just been informed that Peoria Area Retarded Citizens' funding has been cut 100%.  This is an outrage and cannot be allowed in this (or any other) community. Those people affected are the most dependant on society and this cannot stand. This smacks of the Dark Ages where the retarded are separated, denied healthcare, mocked, imprisoned, etc. These individuals have only society and family (many have none) to depend on and this cannot continue. While I think that saving funding for the truly retarded is commendable, especially considering the number of truly retarded people that we're dealing with in this country, wouldn't it be best to have family members and the general public comment upon the situation? When you post your credentials like this, it makes it look like you're a person who stands to lose a position or who has something personal to lose. I'm sure some of these folks have families...I'd suggest you get them involved as much as possible. It'll look much better.

If what this letter says is true, then something needs to be done. This needs to go to whom it may concern and have something done about it.

Oh, this is such a shame. You can judge a society on how it treats its most helpless members.

It is sad to see public funding cut from any program that helps disabled or mentally handicapped people, but money is short these days so it is not a surprise

Any word from the state as to why the funding was cut?

Its truly sad when tax dollars are funneled from where they are needed most and instead into government fueled coups and "stimulus bills". By the way where is this Peoria? IL?

There is no need to lay waste to these people who are in need. Especially when these types of people can give so much to society. It's not like we are trying to force their genes into the gene pool and they will "infect us." Give them a chance to shine and support funding for these people.

All organization receiving government funds are getting less but if what this person says is true (1oo percent cut) then I think theres a problem.

This is such a heartbreaking reality in these terrible economic times. It's not fair that corporations are getting bailed out while nonprofits are shutting down. Just awful!

We talk about health care for all, but they cut funding for an already established system that is needed, where is the common sense in this?
