To whom it may concern:

Dear Senator Kaeoler (sp.),

I'm writing in regard to the 100% loss of funds for the above program.  I have a 31-year-old son, Artie (do you remember him {my name was previously Carol Thompson, used to be a friend/employee of Nora's}). We live in San Jose, IL and rely on PARC Respite for emergencies and even a break from having a severely autistic adult-child. The funds being cut will severly affect the ability to keep my son from an institutional setting, which by the way will cost the state many times more than the current availability. Developmentally challenged adults have no choice but to be at the mercy of society. I have great fear for my son in the current IL mindset. Who can I contact as a professional (MBA, BSN, RN, PhD (candidate)) to stop this insanity. The weakest of our society deserve our protection and families need continued support. Thank You David and congratulations on your success. Please tell Nora hello and feel free for either of you to contact me. Please let me know what I can do to change this problem. Sincerely, Carol Calhoun

God Bless

This is very sad to see and my guess this is just the start. Look at what is going on now in our government. If they cannot vote lets cut the funding. However if they can vote lets give half the car company to the Union that support our party. Also lets leglize all inleligal imigrants and give them tax refunds and free health car. - Why because they can vote and will most likely for for us!!!! You have to look at the motives. I am sorry this has happened to your son!!!

This is much better. This phrasing and structuring is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about, and it should go much farther toward advancing your goal. Good luck!

This letter could definitely have an impact because of the human aspect to it. It seems a lot of help the government gives is being taken away, and it's sad.

It is unfortunate to discard these people as waste. Autistic people may have great intelligence. Developmentally challenged individuals can work for society and give us joy. It is a shame to dismiss these kind of people. It's not like increasing funding for them will force them to reproduce and spread their genes around. Give them a break.

This is a good letter. If I was in your position I would be doing the same thing. I wish you all the best and I'm shocked that they would pull funds that would help these challenged people.

I like that you included how institutionalization costs more than community-based supports. It's unfortunately money that talks.

Hi Carol, I wish you all the best and hope this letter helps you to inspire change. It is shame that when things get rough the helpless are the first to be targeted.

Although we see cutbacks in every area of society we must be careful not to harm those among us least able to care for themselves. I believe it was Tocquaville who said that a society should be judged by the way it treats the least among it.

Every single man, woman and child in this society needs to stop what they are doing and show every last ounce of respect that they have for these people. Thank you.
