To whom it may concern:
Those of us who live in California are really being taken to the woodshed  for crimes are legislatures have committed.  We will  be paying close to ten percent in sales tax in the coming months.  And I have to ask you, when will it stop?  Well, I'll tell you, it won't.  The populace needs to wake up and get angry or we will be paying 15 percent by the year 2011.

It's the same everywhere. In Ga. we have a constitutional provision barring deficit spending by the legislature. Despite that, Governor 'Perdoofus' and the inept legislature passed a budget that is indeed a deficit in order to protect various pork projects. This is after the Republican dominated legislature managed to eliminate the budget surplus left by the Dems in 2002. Our sales tax may by 15% before these clowns get through!

We pay our money to the corporations, pay taxes to the government, who in turn gives our money to the corporations. Is there really a point?

As a resident of California, I think that this is absolutely appalling. The governor's plan is clearly not in context with the President's.

The populace needs to wake up and address the entire failure of governments re allowing corporations to export jobs not only out of the state but out of the country while reaping huge taxes and even incentives while the mismanage that too! We have a state government that tried to have a loophole for no tax on expensive yachts. Yet they want to roll children and families off the medicaid rolls even as more families are plunged below the poverty level by the recession and cut education in a state that already has an apalling public education system. It doesn't have to be this way. We elected them. We can unelect them too!

I'll agree in principle with your sentiment, but you hit on the answer without even realizing it. When the problem is in the legislature and you live in the United States of America, the solution is in your vote. If the people of California keep complaining about the legislature and not backing that up with voting the problem out of office, it's hard to feel sympathy for them.

The whole state of California is in the dumps since the Housing Crisis. If I were a Californian I would move far far far away from the Westcoast period! :) Just my opinion.

counterculture....if you were a business and either had to pay huge dividends, sales, property, and various corporate tax rates why would you stay? People must learn that the government is the cure to their problems....Limit government and protect individual liberty.

Not from California, never even been there. But yes, when will it stop. It is hard to imagine how the average american can afford anything....well, credit card debt! We need some BIG time control and the wrong people are doing the controlling.

It does need to stop. If the tax goes up that means everything else should slowly be on the rise. That includes our rate of pay and the number of jobs in general. High gas prices, low wages, lack of jobs....yea, lets raise taxes...I hate the pure idiocy of it all.

Thank Bush...... the end. We will be paying this off for the next thousand years if not more. But you know, at least he wasn't a socialist... ah yes that's right. He was a fascist.

I was always taught that communism was a bad thing. Didn't we build a whole mess of nukes for the purpose of holding back the people who did this to their citizens? Let us keep our pay checks!

Seeing as your from California, you must have many state-taxes related to energy conservation. I would be MORE than happy to pay a higher tax rate in exchange for the efficiency of how green your state is. I live in Michigan, and I know even for having as much fresh water and woods, we still have terrible energy habbits that the government has yet to instill in us.

Wow I live in georgia and with county and option taxes we pay 6% which I thought was high. I think when California sees a mass exodus of its population to tax friendlier states they'll wake up.

The state of Tennessee also pays 9.75 percent sales tax, not just California. I am under the impression that a higher sales tax in Tennessee means a lower property tax...

As another resident of CA, this tax increase is a killer. I don't pay property taxes, so even a lowering of that to compensate would be meaningless to me. Enough is enough.

Wow. I get mad that I have to pay 6.5% in Florida but now I can't really complain. Good luck. The increases will never stop.

wow. 10% just imagine. you spend a thousand and basicly throw away 100 dollars. i know the money goes towards good causes, but i know they also go towards blatant frivolousness. 250,000 dollar business suits my eye

ugh, that is horrible! I used to live in CA and I know how that tax adds up. I can't believe it is nearing 10%! I am sorry that you are having to pay for the actions of your government.

I think that in a state that is in debt as California, its necessary to take the precautions to get out of the deficit. With such a shortfall in collected taxes, the government has to increase revenue and this is one of the best ways.

I live in the Seattle area and we are paying 9.5%. I agree that it's a lot, but the bigger question is where is it going? If it is funding necessary services then bite the bullet and pay the tax. If it's going down the proverbial toilet, then your most powerful comment will be your vote in the next state elections.
